Flamenco Lab
Learn, Dance & Socialise | Sat 19 Sep | Soho
Discover flamenco from the inside out. Theory, dance workshop, and social practice — all in one afternoon. No experience needed.
What if you could not only learn the steps of flamenco, but actually understand the music, rhythm and traditions behind them?
Welcome to Flamenco Lab, a new three-hour flamenco dance experience combining learning, dancing and social practice in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Designed and led by Flamenco with Maika, this special session takes you beyond simply copying choreography. You will discover how flamenco works, explore one of its traditional palos through movement, and then have the opportunity to put everything into practice socially.
No previous knowledge of flamenco dance is required. Whether you are completely new to flamenco dance, already taking classes, or simply curious about Spanish culture and this extraordinary art form, you are very welcome.
1:30–2:30 pm | Discover Flamenco
Interactive Introduction to Flamenco Dance & Palos
We begin with an accessible and interactive introduction to the fascinating world of flamenco.
Together, we’ll explore the foundations of flamenco dance, its cultural background, rhythm and compás, and how movement connects with music and singing. We may also discover some of the different styles, moods and characters within flamenco.
This is not a formal lecture! We will listen, clap, participate, ask questions and experience the rhythms together, helping you understand flamenco in a practical and enjoyable way.
2:30–3:30 pm | Dance Flamenco
Practical Workshop
Now we take what we have discovered and bring it to the dance floor.
Each Flamenco Lab will focus on a particular flamenco palo, allowing us to explore its rhythm, character, movement and expression through a practical dance workshop.
You’ll have the opportunity to work on elements of flamenco dance such as posture, arm and hand movements, footwork, rhythm and musicality. You may also explore expression, character and simple movements or combinations connected to the compás and music.
Rather than simply learning steps, you will begin to understand why and how those steps belong to the music.
3:30–4:30 pm | Flamenco Social
Practise • Dance • Connect
The final hour is yours to enjoy.
We turn the space into a relaxed Flamenco Social, where you can practise what you have learnt, dance, experiment with the rhythms, ask questions and share the experience with other flamenco lovers.
There is no pressure to perform and no need to remember a complete choreography. The idea is simply to dance, practise, connect and enjoy flamenco together.
Three hours. Three ways to experience flamenco.
Whether this is your first encounter with flamenco dance or you already dance and want to deepen your understanding, Flamenco Lab offers a different way to experience this incredible art form.
💃🕺 Flamenco is for everyone.

Flamenco Performance Course
Take the Stage. Celebrate Your Flamenco Journey.
The Flamenco Performance Course is the perfect opportunity to transform everything you have learnt throughout the academic year into an unforgettable live performance.
Designed for Improvers who have been attending my regular Flamenco classes during the 2025–2026 academic year, this five-week course is dedicated to refining, polishing and bringing to life one of the choreographies we have studied together.
Rather than learning a new choreography, this course focuses on refining and bringing to the stage one of the choreographies studied during the 2025–2026 Flamenco Improvers classes. At the beginning of the course, the students will collectively choose which piece they would like to perform from the repertoire we have explored together throughout the year—such as Soleá, Caña, El Amor Brujo or Tangos de Triana. Together, we will then polish every detail, working on technique, musicality, expression and stage presence to transform it into a performance of the highest quality.
Throughout the course, we will work on:
✨ Musicality and rhythm
✨ Expression and flamenco artistry
✨ Technique, precision and confidence
✨ Stage presence and projection
✨ Spatial awareness and group formations
✨ Working as a performance ensemble
✨ Connecting with the audience through authentic flamenco
As we rehearse, you will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to perform flamenco, developing not only your dancing but also your confidence, presence and ability to communicate emotion on stage.
The course culminates in a live performance at the Danceworks Showcase, held at The London Oratory School Theatre on Saturday 24 October 2026. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the progress you have made throughout the year and to share your passion for flamenco with family, friends and a live audience.
Whether this is your first performance or you're returning to the stage, this course offers an inspiring and supportive environment where every dancer can shine while experiencing the excitement of performing as part of a flamenco company.

Sevillanas Dance Class & Social Soho
Learn sevillanas and join our Spanish dance social in Soho, London.
Sevillanas is a traditional partnered folk dance from Andalusia. You'll see it at every Andalusian FIESTA , feria, and local celebration. If you're Spanish and missing home, or you've always wanted to learn authentic Spanish dance, this is your space.
What to expect:
1.5 hours of sevillanas class (beginners welcome — we'll teach you from scratch) with 10 minute break
1.5 hours of social dancing where you can practise, mix, and enjoy the music
Welcoming, inclusive atmosphere — half our community is Spanish, half international
Your ticket includes 1 complimentary drink (soft drink, small wine, or sangria)
The class is taught by Flamenco con Maika, a dance school and project led by Maika Jiménez Blanco, an instructor with more than 18 years of international experience.
Why come? If you've ever been to a Andalusian feria, or local fiesta, you know sevillanas is where the real fun starts. We're bringing that energy to London. Come dance, meet people who love Spanish culture, and maybe stay for dinner after (our Spanish kitchen is upstairs!).
No partner needed. We rotate partners during the class so everyone gets to dance.
Important information:
We'll teach sevillanas step by step, covering the key sections and footwork
The social hour is relaxed — no pressure, just practice and fun
Sevillanas is danced in pairs but you don't need to bring a partner
All levels welcome — most attendees are beginners or intermediate
Minimum number of attendees required. The organiser reserves the right to cancel up to 24 hours before the event if minimum numbers aren't reached. Full refund will be issued if cancelled. Attendees may cancel up to 2 days before the event for a full refund.
